A potent new single cask dram, bottled exclusively for The Whisky Shop, from young Skye distillery Torabhaig’s Signature Reserve range. Torabhaig deliberately select casks which stand apart from their elegant ‘Smoke with Taste’ house style for the series: previous bottlings for The Whisky Shop have showcased intensified smoke, meaty barbecue notes, and on occasion a daringly hard-edged wildness.
This latest one shows an unexpectedly indulgent side to Torabhaig’s sometimes austere refinement, maturation in a single, very active Pedro Ximénez cask generating a grand richness and depth of flavour, woven through with a subtle vein of earthy smoke. A gently smouldering, slightly funky Bruce Bogtrotter chocolate gateau of a whisky.
Distilled on 15th January 2019 and bottled on 25th August 2026, it’s presented at a powerful 62.4% abv, free from added colour or chill filtration. One of just 318 bottles, available exclusively from The Whisky Shop.
Rich and inviting on the nose, with dried figs, raisin bread, dark fruits and just a hint of funk, a thread of cigar-box smoke weaving its way intriguingly through the sweetness. Surprisingly dry at first, the palate evolves into increasingly dense and treacly notes of fruit cake, cocoa, dates and boozy raisins, with gentle oak tannins adding backbone. The finish is long and lightly drying, with dark fruits giving way to bittersweet notes of liquorice and charred oak, the peat smouldering softly underneath.
