This expression from Vermont's WhistlePig farm distillery is matured for 15 years and finished in casks made from Vermont Estate oak that is harvested on the farm itself. The distillery is aiming for what they call 'Triple Terroir' - whiskey made with grain, water and oak from their farm. This rye whiskey is the oldest expression in the range and is bottled at 46% abv.
The nose is rich and deep with caramel, vanilla, oak and allspice atop hints of burnt orange. The palate is rich and slightly creamy with warm notes of butterscotch, baking spice, leather and hints of tobacco leaf. The finish is incredibly long and warming.
