The second in Highland Park’s convention-defying Between You & I series is a 17-year-old single malt created in collaboration with Egyptian-American chef, food artist and host Laila Gohar – once described as ‘the Björk of food’.
The whisky was crafted personally for Laila by Master Whisky Maker Marc Watson, spending its first eleven years in refill casks and its final six in new American oak. The striking influence of the virgin oak delivers a vibrant burst of citrus fruit, spice and creamy vanillas inspired by the warm, aromatic, earthy flavours of Laila’s Egyptian roots.
The packaging presents a series of dreamlike windows that journey from old-world Cairo museums to sun-drenched Andalusian patios and the slopes of a tropical volcano, Laila inviting the drinker to step into the richly imaginative worlds the whisky’s flavours conjured in her.
This single malt doesn’t come with a conventional list of tasting notes. Instead, the distillery invites drinkers to share their personal experience, encouraging them to take a sip of the whisky and imagine a window opening in their own minds.
