TIME:SPACE Sherry Cask marks the third chapter in The Macallan’s TIME:SPACE collection, following the 200th anniversary releases of TIME:SPACE and TIME:SPACE Mastery in 2024.
Each expression represents a pivotal moment in time for The Macallan, with TIME:SPACE Sherry Cask the first whisky to be influenced by Valdespino sherry-seasoned casks since the distillery partnered with the historic bodega’s owners in 2023.
The result is a limited, richly layered 20-year-old single malt, predominantly matured in sherry-seasoned European oak before being married together in 200 bespoke Valdespino sherry-seasoned casks in 2024. It celebrates a shared future with Valdespino, deepening The Macallan’s enduring connection to sherry’s ancestral Spanish home in Jerez de la Frontera.
The whisky is presented within the collection’s distinctive circular bottle, embodying the continuous flow of time. Its presentation box draws inspiration from the Palomino grapes used to produce Valdespino sherry, the round shapes and warm yellow hue of its interior designed to evoke the golden Andalusian sun filtering through ripening fruit. The liquid is bottled at 44.8% abv, with natural, cask-derived colour.
Beautifully bold and full on the nose, with intense, sherry-soaked fruits and dark chocolate truffles melting into cinnamon and ginger. There’s a jam-like, sticky richness to the palate, with sultanas, dates, dried apricots, and treacly gingerbread balanced with warming baking spice, polished oak, and more bittersweet dark chocolate. The finish is long and warming, with gentle wood spice, a hint of espresso, and soft waves of oak.
