Known for their critically-acclaimed sweet expressions, this Highland distillery has been producing standout drams since 1898. The distillery uses water from the Pitilie Burn in their production which contains traces of alluvial gold!
Tucked away at the foot of the Highlands, Aberfeldy Distillery was built close to the birthplace of founder, John Dewar. A distillery inspired by traditional methods of whisky making, Aberfeldy distil their whiskies in Alembic copper pot stills before they are maturated in a combination of barrels, butts, and hogsheads.
In 2000, Dewar's World of Whisky was opened by the Earl of Elgin.
Aberfeldy is the only distillery ever to be built by the Dewar family.
Aberfeldy's whiskies have won over 150 awards.
History
Aberfeldy Distillery went into production in 1898. Two years later, the boom years of the 1890s turned to bust. Throughout the decade, the whisky trade was seen as blue chip by banks and investors; cash for expansion was readily available, the market for blended Scotch seemed inexhaustible – Scotch (and soda) was the drink of the Empire – and skilful advertising and promotion by the leading companies, including John Dewar & Sons, kept the pot boiling.
Today, Aberfeldy is hugely successful, continuing to impress fans all across the world with their honeyed expressions.
