Ailsa Bay
Single Malt Scotch Whisky
With exacting precision, Ailsa Bay brings whisky-craft and innovation to a whole new level. Micro-maturation in Hudson Baby Bourbon casks, followed by a slower maturation in virgin American oak allows their expert Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, to create a highly complex matrix of flavours.
About Ailsa Bay
Ailsa Bay sits on the Clyde and looks out to Kintyre, Arran, and Ailsa Craig (hence the distillery’s name!). It is based on the site of Girvan Distillery. Their eight stills produce a range of whiskies with particularly flavoured profiles. Ailsa Bay is an excellent example of why Lowlands distilleries should not be overlooked!
Prince Charles attended the opening of Ailsa Bay in 2009.
Hendrick's Gin is also produced on the site.
Girvan Distillery boasts 53 warehouses and accounts for around 10% of all Scotch whisky.
History
Built on Girvan Distillery, Ailsa Bay was built in 2007 in the same spot as the former Ladyburn Distillery. Their first release came out in 2016 – a heavily peated non-age statement single malt – and put Ailsa Bay’s name on the map. A truly versatile upcoming distillery – we can’t wait to see what they do next!
