3 Ingredient Whisky Cocktails
You needn't have a fully stocked bar to make some of the most famous and delicious whisky cocktails around. Stay minimalist with these simple three-ingredient cocktails, using either Scotch, Irish whiskey, Japanese whisky or bourbon. Switch them up for a twist.
Rob Roy
Scotch - Sweet Vermouth - Bitters
- Add 60 ml scotch, 20 ml sweet vermouth and 3 dashes of Angostura bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir until chilled, and strain into a cocktail glass.
- Garnish with maraschino cherries.
Old Fashioned
Bourbon - Sugar - Bitters
- Add 1 tsp sugar, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to a mixing glass, with a 1 tsp of water.
- Stir until the sugar is almost dissolved.
- Add ice to the mixing glass, and then pour 60 ml bourbon.
- Stir until well chilled, and strain into a rocks glass over ice.
- Garnish with an orange twist.
Boulevardier
Bourbon - Campari - Sweet Vermouth
- Add 35 ml bourbon, 30 ml Campari and 30 ml sweet vermouth to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir, and strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish with an orange twist.
De Rigueur
Scotch - Grapefruit Juice - Honey
- Add 45 ml Scotch whisky, 30 ml grapefruit juice and 1 tbsp honey (dissolved in a little hot water) to a shaker with ice.
- Shake well, and strain into a cocktail glass.
- Garnish with a grapefruit twist.
Hot Toddy
Bourbon - Honey - Lemon
- Add 60 ml bourbon, 1 tbsp honey, and 2 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice to a mug.
- Top the glass with boiling water.
- Stir until the honey is dissolved.
- Serve.
Highball
Japanese Whisky - Soda - Lemon
- Add 60 ml whiskey to a highball glass with ice, and top with soda water.
- Squeeze a lemon wedge and drop in.
Manhattan
Rye Whiskey - Sweet Vermouth - Bitters
- In a mixing glass with ice, add 60 ml rye whiskey, 30 ml sweet vermouth and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
- Stir well, then strain into a chilled coupe.
- Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Mint Julep
Bourbon - Sugar - Mint
- Add 60 ml bourbon, 10 mint leaves and 1 tbsp sugar syrup to a shaker with ice.
- Shake well, and strain into a julep tin with crushed ice.
- Garnish with a mint sprig.
