Old Pulteney distillery introduced their limited-edition Coastal Series in October 2022, with their first Pineau des Charentes expression. The series brings drinkers on a worldwide voyage of exploration, by partnering with spirits makers from coastal locations around the world for a specialist selection of casks. A finish in casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a sweet aperitif from the southwest coast of France, brought a beautiful orange-spice sweetness to Old Pulteney’s signature salty flavour.

This year, the Coastal Series brings Old Pulteney Port - matured in both Ruby Port Pipes and Ruby Port Barriques, seasoned by iconic sweet, red, fortified wine native to the Douro Valley of northern Portugal. Like Old Pulteney, the creation of Port goes back centuries and pays a major role in the history of its region.

First the liquid is matured in second-fill bourbon casks, and then it is moved to the hand-selected Port pipes and barriques to absorb the rich flavours of the delicious fortified wine. This perfect partnership of coastal heritage results in a fragrant, fruity and rich Maritime malt that takes you on a journey to the sun-soaked beaches of Portugal.

On the nose, aromas of dried fruits, buttery vanilla, candied orange peel and ginger bread swirl amongst deep undertones of cherries, marzipan and dark chocolate. The sweet and spicy palate brings notes of baked apples, caramelised sugar and cinnamon pastries, with hints of rose water and sea salt before a finish of warming spice and plum jam sweetness.
