Fourth of July Ballot: Stagg Bourbon
Multi-award winning and much sought-after, Stagg is a part of the revered Buffalo Trace Distillery's celebrated offerings. Uncut and unfiltered, this robust bourbon whiskey has been aged for nearly a decade, and boasts the bold character that is reminiscent of the distillery's founder. A legendary figure in the history of American whiskey, George T Stagg built the most dominant American distillery of the 19th century during a time known as the 'Gilded Age of Bourbon'. Aged in American white oak casks, this batched bourbon is bottled at a barrel strength of 65% abv.
The expression is made with the top-secret Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1, which is also used in similarly hyped bourbons, Eagle Rare, E.H Taylor and Buffalo Trace bourbon. Released only twice a year in limited batches, this is a rare treat that's famously elusive amongst bourbon aficionados. The whiskey was previously called 'Stagg Jr', before a name change in 2022.
You can expect delectable flavours of brown sugar and milk chocolate, on a layer of bold rye spice. On the close, hints of cherry, cloves and smoke arise and fade in a glorious lingering finish.
