5 Festive Bourbon Cocktails
We've assembled some of the best winter warmer cocktails from our favourite American whisky brands for you to make at your Christmas parties. Let's take a look.
Each recipe serves one, so remember to scale up for your guests!
Single Barrel Manhattan - Jack Daniel's
A festive classic with a luxurious twist from Jack Daniel's, this premium Manhattan is just made for Christmas Eve!
- Fill a cocktail mixing glass halfway with ice.
- Add 50ml Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Whiskey, 12.5ml Sweet Vermouth, 12.5ml Dry Vermouth and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.
- Stir for 10 seconds, and then strain the liquid into a coupe glass.
- Add garnish of your choice, we prefer a maraschino cherry or three!
- Serve.
The Layover - Westward
This riff on a Paper Plane features Westward's Pinot Noir-finished whiskey and incorporates PX Sherry to elevate the whiskey's orchard fruit and dark chocolate notes.
- Add 50ml Westward Whiskey Pinot Noir Cask, 10ml PX Sherry, 15ml Aperol and 20ml lemon juice to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake.
- Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
- Serve.
Kentucky Bubbly - Maker's Mark
Apple and Maker’s Mark come together beautifully for a crisp and fizzy cocktail that is perfect around the for celebrating.
- Add 30ml Maker's Mark to a champagne flute.
- Fill with sparkling apple juice (such as Appletiser or Fever Tree Cloudy British Apple).
- Drop a maraschino cherry in the bottom to garnish.
The Clermont - Knob Creek
With a combination of spicy rye, absinthe and bitters, this strong whiskey cocktail is a true winter warmer!
- Fill a tumbler with ice and allow a moment to chill.
- In a separate cocktail mixing glass, combine 15ml simple syrup and 2-3 dashes of Peychauds bitters.
- Add 60ml Knob Creek Rye whiskey and ice, and stir.
- Discard the ice in the tumbler, and rinse it with 1/2 a teaspoon of absinthe by pouring it into the glass, swirling it around and discarding the liquid.
- Strain the whisky mixture into the glass.
- Squeeze a lemon twist and drop in.
- Serve.
Rye Hot Toddy - Bulleit
A quick and easy winter classic, made even warmer with spicy Bulleit rye whiskey.
- Fill a mug with fresh boiling water and let stand.
- Cut a lemon twist and stud it with cloves.
- Throw out water, and refill with fresh boiling water.
- Add 1tsp demerara sugar and stir to dissolve.
- Add your lemon garnish, 10ml lemon juice and 40ml Bulleit Rye and stir.
- Serve.
