Top St. Patrick's Day Drams
St. Patrick's Day: the perfect time of year to indulge in some spectacular Irish spirits!
The pubs might still be shut, but our selection of Irish whiskies is here to help you stock up for the big day on Wednesday 17th March - and keep the spirit of Saint Paddy alive!
Here are our top picks at The Whisky Shop to get you started:
Redbreast's range of Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
Redbreast 12 Year Old - £45
An award-winning single pot still Irish whiskey full of aroma and flavour, Redbreast 12 Year Old has been matured in a combination of seasoned American oak barrels and oloroso sherry-seasoned Spanish oak butts to give it a trademark rich and nutty flavour profile. Not just one of our favourite whiskies from Ireland, but one of our favourite drams of all time.
Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength - £92
Straight from the cask, unfiltered, and with no water added - this is Redbreast 12 Year Old with the dial turned all the way up! Launched in 2011, reviews for this cask strength expression have been consistently high and for good reason: this is a 'go big or go home' dram.
Redbreast 15 Year Old - £89
In 2005, Redbreast 15 Year Old was released as a limited edition; now, it's a permanent member of the family. Created from a combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, this expression is a step up from the 12-year-old if your palate calls for something rich, complex and earthy.
Redbreast Lustau - £60
Behold the ultimate sherried style of Redbreast! This single malt is made from malted and unmalted barley, triple distilled in copper pot stills and matured in Oloroso sherry casks from the renowned Bodegas Lustau in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Expect a flavour medley of dark fruits, marzipan and oak spice. An absolute cracker.
Redbreast 21 Year Old - £175
Until the recent arrive of the 27-year-old, Redbreast 21 Year Old had been the oldest of the range for a good while! The 21-year-old's ageing process introduces levels of depth, flavour and taste to create an inherently complex, and ultimately, rewarding whiskey. Made with ex-bourbon barrels and first-fill Oloroso casks, we can't get enough of this spectacular dram. One to splash out on!
Green Spot - £46
Green Spot is a bang-for-your-buck dram that captures the quintessential flavour profile of single pot still Irish whiskey. This expression is composed of pot still whiskeys aged between 7 and 10 years old, matured in a combination of new bourbon and re-fill bourbon casks, as well as sherry casks.
Creamy, full and complex, rarely has Green Spot let us down.
Yellow Spot - £71.75
Yellow Spot is the second addition to the Spot Whiskey range and contains liquid from its Green Spot sibling. Yellow Spot is a single pot still Irish whiskey matured in three types of cask: American bourbon barrels, Spanish Sherry butts and Spanish Malaga casks resulting in a superbly complex whiskey with fresh and sweet top notes.
You might have noticed we haven't listed Midleton Very Rare 2021 (despite it being in the blog image) - we're truly sorry, but this is now sold out at The Whisky Shop.
